Email Verification
Email Verification
Sending emails to addresses that don't exist is one of the fastest ways to damage your domain reputation. High bounce rates signal to email providers that you're sending to low-quality lists, which can land your domain on blocklists.
ProperSend integrates with MillionVerifier to automatically verify email addresses before they enter your campaigns.
When to verify: Before every campaign. Verify leads immediately after purchase from Lead Finder or import from CSV. A single verification pass can reduce your bounce rate from 5-10% to under 1%.
Verification Types
ProperSend supports three verification workflows:
- Single – verify one email address from the lead detail view in CRM. Useful for checking a specific contact before a manual send.
- Bulk from CRM – select multiple leads in the CRM table and click "Verify Emails". Best for cleaning a batch of leads before launching a campaign.
- Bulk on import – enable automatic verification during CSV import. Every imported email is checked before it's added to your lead database. This is the most efficient option for regular imports.
Best Practice: Always enable verification during CSV import. This catches invalid addresses before they enter your system, saving both credits and your domain reputation. Combined with Suppressions, it creates a fully automated quality filter.
Results
After verification, each email receives one of the following statuses:
| Result | Meaning | Recommended Action |
|--------|---------|-------------------|
| ok | Email exists and is valid | Safe to send |
| catch_all | Server accepts all emails (can't confirm this specific one) | Send with caution — monitor for bounces |
| unknown | Verification server couldn't complete the check | Send but verify manually if critical |
| invalid | Email doesn't exist | Suppress — do not send |
| disposable | Temporary / disposable email address | Suppress — remove from your list |
Best Practice: Create a Suppression rule for
invalidanddisposableresults automatically. This ensures they are never contacted, keeping your bounce rate low and your Domain Health strong.
Verification + Suppressions Workflow
The most effective setup combines verification with suppressions:
- Import leads (with auto-verification enabled)
invalidanddisposableaddresses are automatically added to Suppressions- Campaigns skip suppressed addresses — zero risk of bounces from bad contacts
- You only pay credits for verified leads, not for bounces
Credits
Each verification consumes one credit from your account. Credits are shared with Lead Finder — there's no separate billing system. You can top up credits in Settings → Billing.
| Verification Type | Cost | |-------------------|------| | Single | 1 credit per address | | Bulk from CRM | 1 credit per address | | Bulk on import | 1 credit per address |
Best Practices
- Verify before every campaign — even trusted lists degrade over time as people change jobs or abandon addresses.
- Enable auto-verification on import — the easiest way to bulk verify, requires zero extra steps.
- Watch out for
catch_all— a high number of catch-all addresses will inflate your bounce rate. Consider lower daily limits for these. - Don't ignore
disposable— disposable email users rarely convert. Save your credits and domain reputation. - Pair with Suppressions — automate blocking of invalid and disposable addresses so you never contact them again.
